Creation of an interactive COVID-19 distribution statistics map

In April of 2020, Consortis presented an interactive map with COVID-19 statistics in Greece and around the world.

Covid-19 GIS visualizes in a short and concise way the spatial evolution of the pandemic worldwide. It records the number of cases, deaths, and treated cases per country. Each numerical index is captured through a cycle of variable size, depending on the quantity it attempts to record. Additionally, a comparative statistical approach to the course of the pandemic is attempted, with the help of a bar graph that combines all three indicators together.

All data used is updated on a daily basis and is available in the data repository for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Visual Dashboard, operated by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering (JHU CSSE), in collaboration with the ESRI Living Atlas Team and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (JHU APL).

More specifically, this particular GIS is an implementation of the application - kernel EVRYMAP, which has the role of the basic platform that offers all the basic mapping functions, such as:

• Categorization / grouping of displayed thematic levels by type of service, server

• Ability to integrate, utilize Viewing Services (WMS)

• Ability to integrate, utilize Services (WFS)

• Thematic level management (addition, abstraction, rearrangement)

• Ability to submit questions regarding the descriptive features of the vector thematic levels

• Ability to search in vector levels, in an area defined graphically by the user on the map

• Navigation tools (focus, decentralize, shift, shift to coordinates)
