Urban Heat Island Effect Workshops
In the context of the implementation of the Act entitled "Strengthening ecological consciousness and promoting environmental volunteerism in the Municipality of Ampelokipi-Menemeni", CONSORTIS, which is responsible for the project, undertook the organization of interactive workshops, setting as a basic objective the sensitization of the public on issues of volunteerism and environmental protection, as well as their activation for initiatives in this direction.
The workshops will take place on 1st, 3rd and 4th of November 2021, at Karapantzio Cultural Center of the Municipality of Ampelokipi-Menemeni and will concern the Urban Heat Island effect in Western Thessaloniki.
The main speaker of the workshops will be Dr. Aris Bartholomeos (Associate CONSORTIS, Rural Topographer Engineer Auth, Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Architectural Engineering AUTh), who will inform and sensitize the employees, the local action intuitions, and the residents of the Municipality of Ampelokipi-Menemeni, as to the causes, the effects and the ways of mitigating the Heat Island effect.
The workshops will include a short briefing by Dr. Aris Bartholomeos as well as collaborative exercises, where, with the participation of the public, solutions to mitigate the phenomenon will be discussed and proposed.
During the first workshop, which will take place on Monday, November 1st, 2021, from 12:00 to 15:00, employees of the Municipality of Ampelokipi-Menemeni will be able to participate, with physical or online presence.
The citizens of the Municipality of Ampelokipi-Menemeni and the Local Intuitions and Associations can take part in the workshops, with physical or online presence, on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th November 2021, from 17:00-20:00.
