Flood Protection Study of the Northern Sector of Komotini
Flood Protection Study of the Northern Sector of Komotini
In October of 2020, the hydraulics studies department of Consortis, signed a contract with the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Komotini, for the flood protection of Komotini’s northern sector and in particular of the firing range and the area of Camp "Captain Paraschos" .
The northern sector of Komotini has been affected many times during bad weather, creating several problems throughout northern Komotini. The anti-flood works in these areas (in the area downstream of the Shooting Range as well as the camp "Captain Paraschos" are considered of outstanding importance, as they are part of the development and infrastructure projects, with the upgrading of rainwater networks to be part of the broader framework of natural resources protection and the environment in general.
The design of the required projects was based on the proposed sewerage projects, which are considered to receive rainwater from fundamental surfaces (drainage basins). The drainage basins that have been drawn and calculated, attribute their benefits to the head of each sewerage project (worst case scenario).
What was peculiar and at the same time a challenge for this study was that in this area military vehicles pass perpendicular to the E.O from the Northern Exit of the camp ‘’Captain Paraschos’’, a fact that was addressed with the construction of a rectangular culvert of internal dimensions 2.00 X1.50 and 8 meters long and in the Shooting Range a drainage ditch was proposed, with a basic trapezoidal cross section and the accompanying drainage works (ditch and channels).
