Scanning Negatives of the Aerial Photo Archive for the Hellenic Land Registry

Scanning Negatives of the Aerial Photo Archive for the Hellenic Land Registry

CONSORTIS, as a member of a consortium of three companies, provides services for scanning negative aerial photographs and creating the corresponding geo-reference files on behalf of the Hellenic Land Registry.

The object of the project is the conversion into digital form of approximately 407,000 aerial photographs (negatives) that are currently in analog form and the georeferencing of the respective digital files to determine their trace on the ground in the form of closed polygon (footprints).

The source material for the scan is the original analog film material of the aerial photography (negative). Due to this sensitivity, specialized scanning equipment was used which was placed in the facilities of the Hellenic Land Registry.

For the georeferencing of aerial photographs and the creation of footprints, high precision photogrammetric methods and backgrounds were used. Through the methodology applied, the accuracy of the determination of the trace in the center of the aerial photography is of the order of 1 cm or better in the scale of the aerial photography.

The duration of the project is two years. The project started in March 2019 and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2021.
