Kostas Vavatsoulas

Business Development Team Leader

I was born and raised in Thessaloniki, though my origins from Katafygion in the Pierian Mountains. In 2010 I graduated from the faculty of Rural and Surveying Engineering of the Engineering School at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, followed by my masters in transportation and logistics in 2012 at the DTU in Denmark.

That was the year I started my professional career at Grontmij (now Sweco) in Scotland and more specifically in Glasgow, with a short spell in highway design and road safety aspects, including work maintenance, supervision and road upgrades.

My passion for strategic transport planning, and the question “why” behind every engineering problem I wanted to design, pushed me towards CH2M (now Jacobs) with whom I worked hard on many projects for local and regional Councils in Scotland, England, Ireland and even the UAE, through which I progressed to a Principal Engineer level, focusing on designing and constructing cycle routes as well as, sustainable mobility plans.

Additionally, I worked on strategic appraisals and studies, action plans, traffic impact assessments, traffic engineering, junction design, embedding technologies such as ITS, CCTV, MIDAS (for Smart/Managed Motorways) and COVID-19 response measures projects, while gaining extended experience in construction supervision and project management.

My most recent career highlight while being abroad was my Chartered Engineer qualification (CEng, 2020), as well as, my involvement in updating the Scottish standards for the cycling route networks plan and infrastructure design (Cycling by Design, 2021).

In autumn of 2021, I moved back to Greece and started my collaboration with Consortis. Since 2022 I am leading the Business Development team, actively managing and extending our client portfolio, while identifying new opportunities both in public and private sector, providinge continuous support continuous support and consulting services to Municipal and Regional Government bodies for the proposal submission stage of various funding streams, while also overseeing the progress and implementation of EU projects (e.g. Interreg Balkan-Med GoGreen). Currently, I am also working on the new business strategy (and ESG strategy), while at the same time branching out to the global market.
